Adding Resources

This guide will teach you how to add resources to a takeoff items in Sigma that will determine the cost PER TAKEOFF UNIT of your takeoff items. This example uses a basic framed wall.

Create a WBS of Carpentry, then Walls, then a particular wall type that will be taken off.

Add 1,000 to the quantity column.

 

At this point we have a wall we need to estimate that has 1,000 sf of surface area. If we wanted a simple cost without any resources we could add 5 or 6 to the unit cost and we would be done. This however does not give you any insight later in the estimate into what materials you need, how long is it going to take, etc.

Add the framing, drywall and painting labor and material line items.

Since our takeoff is in sf, all of the resources need to reflect the cost for 1 sf, and adjust the quantity to reflect the number of units are needed for the wall: the gyp board and painting is on both sides.

Having completed adding resources, the totals for this takeoff item are displayed at the top of the estimating window.
