A components’ cost can be removed from your estimate in 2 ways. Both methods remove only the components’ cost impact on the estimate, while leaving the component and its subcomponents intact.

The main headings of the WBS can not be disabled - only children components can be disabled. And at any level in the estimate.

1.

Right click on the component you want to disable

2.

In the menu that opens click on Disabled

3.

Once disabled the item will be greyed out in the WBS and the estimating window. And you can see that the 729 dollars for the mantle are not included in the total cost sum.

Unlike disabling components, alternatives can only be designated at the main heading level. Once a heading is marked as an alternative, it is taken out of the cost calculations, and in the Summary tab, the alternates appear at the bottom of the page. Alternates are subjected to the same overhead and profit markups as the rest of the estimate.

1.

Create headings for your alternates, such as ALT 1: countertops

2.

Right click the heading and and

3.

hover the mouse over Component Types

4.

in the menu that opens check the box at Alternative.

5.

Click on the Summary tab, scroll to the bottom of the window and you’ll see your alternates. If an alternate is accepted, simply follow the above procedure and uncheck the alternative box - the item is then included in the estimate costs.
